BAU was established in 1998 as a foundation university by Bahcesehir Ugur Educational Institutions. The university’s main campus is located in Besiktas at the heart of Istanbul across the Boshporus, which is a strategic location where European and Asian continents meet. There are 3 more campuses located at various locations in the city. Currently BAU has 25.480 students 16% of which are international students.
